About
About Cambridge Electricians
A direct booking line for one vetted, ECRA/ESA licensed electrical contractor working across Cambridge — Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair — and North Dumfries Township including Ayr and Branchton.
Cambridge Electricians is a booking line and nothing grander. It is not an electrical contracting company, it is not a directory, and it does not pass your enquiry to a list of bidders. One vetted electrical contractor, working across the city and the township beside it, receives every call and every form, and the business that inspects your panel is the business that quotes.
It exists because a worried owner is easy to oversell. Few people can see finished electrical work or judge it in progress, and most are calling because a renewal letter, a home inspector or a real estate deal has told them they need something. That is how a subpanel becomes a 200-amp service, how one live attic run becomes a whole-house rewire, how a generator ends up connected without a transfer switch because it was quicker, and how a charger lands on a circuit the panel could not honestly feed. The contractor behind this line was chosen for working the other way round: assessment first, the load calculation shown, the scope itemised, the ESA notification filed under their own licence, and a plain statement when the smaller job is the right one.
Cambridge shapes the work more than most cities. Three former mill towns, each with a stone or brick core from the nineteenth century on knob-and-tube and fuses, three designated heritage conservation districts and more under study, post-war rings with aluminum at the terminals, new subdivisions in the north and east that want chargers, and a rural edge into North Dumfries where generators, shops and well pumps are the daily request. The utility across all of it is GrandBridge Energy, which used to be Energy+, and the contractor deals with it on every job that touches the service.
What the licence means
Ontario permits only Licensed Electrical Contractors to be hired for electrical work in a home. The licence is issued through the Electrical Contractor Registration Agency of the Electrical Safety Authority, it carries a seven-digit ECRA/ESA number, and it obliges the contractor to file a notification of work with ESA for every job that needs one. ESA reviews the work and ESA alone issues the Certificate of Acceptance that insurers, buyers and the utility rely on. The contractor behind this site holds that licence. The number is on their quote and their vehicle, where you can confirm it with ESA; it is not printed here, because a number on a website proves nothing. The electricians are certified through Skilled Trades Ontario, and the business carries liability insurance and WSIB coverage you may ask to see.
What the contractor takes on
- Panel and service upgrades: fused services in century homes to 200 amps, 100-to-200 upgrades, same-amperage panel replacement, subpanels, grounding, GrandBridge Energy layouts and appointments
- Knob-and-tube and aluminum remediation: written assessment, partial or whole-house rewiring, aluminum re-termination, the ESA Certificate of Acceptance
- Generator, hot tub and pool circuits: manual and automatic transfer switches, inlets, hot tub and spa circuits, pool pumps, heaters and bonding, shop and outbuilding feeders and subpanels
- Pot lights and lighting: recessed LED layouts, under-cabinet, bathroom, exterior and landscape lighting, dimmers matched to LED, heritage-sensitive fixture choices
- EV charger installation: load calculations, dedicated Level 2 circuits, garage and driveway installs, load management, utility layouts where needed
What it does not take on
Commercial and industrial installations. Fire alarm systems. Data, audio and camera cabling. HVAC equipment itself — the circuit is electrical, the heat pump is not. Gas and propane work, including the fuel side of a standby generator, which belongs to a TSSA-registered gas contractor the electrical contractor coordinates with. Building permits, which come from the City of Cambridge or North Dumfries Township, and pool enclosure rules, which are the city's to state. When a request belongs to another trade you are told so, not quoted for it.
What this site will not do
Publish reviews or star ratings it does not have. Invent a founding date or a history. Print a licence number where it cannot be verified. Quote a fixed price without seeing the house. Promise a rebate that could not be verified. Connect a generator without a transfer switch because the customer asked. Sell your number. The site is new, and it says what it can do and nothing more.
How this works
Call 289-273-0108 or use the form, and the enquiry lands with the electrical contractor who covers Cambridge and North Dumfries, nobody else. Most of the day the crew is in a basement or a trench, so the phone usually goes to voicemail; the recording and your number are relayed to them by text and email within moments, and they ring back the same day or the next working day. Tell them which town or which concession road you are on, how old the house is, whether the panel has fuses or breakers, what you want done, whether an insurer or inspector has mentioned the wiring, and for a rural job how far the shop or barn sits from the house. A photo of the panel with its cover on saves everyone twenty minutes. From there the contractor visits, looks at the service, the panel and the route, runs the load calculation if the job adds load, and sends a written quote with each item priced, the ESA notification identified, any GrandBridge Energy step named, and the expected time without power stated. The work is carried out under the contractor's own ECRA/ESA licence and insurance, they file the notification, and the Certificate of Acceptance is delivered to you. The introduction costs you nothing extra.
What we won't do
- Publish reviews we didn't earn. When we have them, they'll be real ones with names.
- Quote a firm price before someone has seen the job.
- Send anyone into your property who we would not have in our own.
